Radome

YESTERDAY, Becca hauled me up the mizzen mast in the bosun’s chair, in the rain, to install the new Garmin radome. The radome is the disc-shaped object halfway up the mast that actually does the radaring: it contains the hilariously comic-bookishly named ‘magnetron’ (“It is I! Magnetron!”).

We had been waiting for a new bracket to arrive, since I assumed that the old bracket wouldn’t fit a Garmin. I was happily wrong. It’s all up now, but I need to go up again to route the cables. It’s probably too windy today, and my crew is away through the weekend, so I may just have to install the rest and do the cables on Monday. Not too much more to do before we are ready to go!
